Instagram Announces Priorities for 2022

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, revealed plans for the photo-sharing app in a video on his Twitter on Tuesday. In the video, he discusses the past year of innovations and looks to the future of the popular app. 

Last year, Instagram added sensitive content control, the ability to hide like counts, extended hidden words to DMs, and removed IGTV to help consolidate its video content.

Heading into 2022, Mosseri stated that:

“We’re going to have to rethink what Instagram is because the world is changing quickly and we’re going to have to change with it”

With the TikTok revolution currently taking place. Instagram is seeking to maintain its status as a desirable platform within the ever-changing landscape of the internet. 

Instagram will be prioritizing video content above all else. It will incentivize creators with monetization projects to promote video content. Additionally, it will offer new creative tools for these creators to make interesting and innovative content. 

The app will also work to improve its messenger feature, and has re-established its commitment to transparency in regards to data collection and the mental health problems associated with young people using the app. Instagram additionally affirmed the return of the chronological feed
