As many of us expected, Porter Robinson presented a concept that surpasses everything he has previously shared for his Secret Sky set. It was a powerful, raw live set with unique audiovisual elements, which gave us a preview of what’s to come in his live performances for his new album Nurture.
The man, the myth, the legend: Porter Robinson recently released his long-awaited album Nurture and, just a day later, presented this Secret Sky 2021 set that was truly out of this world. The virtual festival also had an experience that was very similar to real festivals. We may be tired of livestreams, but these performances were a breath of fresh air.
As expected, Porter presented throughout the set the live edits that we will hear of the Nurture tracks, including a Drum & Bass version with synth-pop by ‘Musician’ to a version faithful to the feeling embodied in ‘Look At The Sky’. With a piano beginning, as is the opening of the album, we start a journey where Porter shows us so much more than just his DJing skills. He delighted us with musical instruments, live vocals and distortions, and on-the-fly versions of songs that were clearly made on the spot.
Nurture wasn’t the only experience we received during the performance, either. <any classics from the musician’s discography were also present. We heard ‘Shelter’ and a remixed version of ‘Sad Machine’, who also made more than one fan sentimental on the broadcast.
Without a doubt, this live set and the entire festival meant a break from the bad news. Surely, after this past year of tons of livestreams and the like, Porter took it to the next level, live and in full color. All the best vibes for Second Sky if it takes place in September of this year.
