Tomorrowland is a staple name in the world of dance music. They have come to be known for pushing the music scene to new heights. This is thanks in part to their massive international festival. Now, they seem to take this one step further. However rather than of using their festivals, they plan to do so with music. I say this, as it was recently announced that Tomorrowland is teaming up with Universal Music Group. In case you didn’t know, Universal Music Group is a global music corporation. One that is majority owned by the French media conglomerate Vivendi, with the Chinese tech company Tencent owning a minority stake. In addition to this, they are also the parent company of Interscope Records, Universal Music LLC, Motown Records, and more.
The formation of Tomorrowland Music will see the Belgian festiva work alongside Virgin Records Germany for new releases, and will receive global distribution support from Virgin Music‘s Label & Artist Services.
For reference, Richard Branson gave his blessing to UMG’s revamped Virgin division back in February. And after claiming that the two-weekend-long Tomorrowland’s 400,000 annual guests hail from some 200 countries – or every nation in the world, in a testament to the logistical difficulties associated with hosting the festival amid a pandemic – the release elaborates upon the scope of the Tomorrowland-UMG partnership.
A spokesperson from UMG had the following to say:
“Through this bespoke and innovative label partnership, Tomorrowland will enjoy direct access to a collective pool of UMG’s most successful international label divisions, creating greater flexibility to deliver global hits,”
“The partnership will be led in Berlin by Alexander Neipp, Daniel Schmidt and Magnus Textor (Virgin Records) and Tina Adams (Virgin Music Label & Artist Services).”
In addition to this, Tomorrowland founder and CEO Michiel Beers had the following to say:
“Creativity is something that can’t be stopped @ Tomorrowland.
I’m very proud of how resilient our team was to find new ways of bringing Tomorrowland into the reality of the last period,”
He continues:
“We have taken the extra time to focus on projects that were on our list for a long time and one of them was definitely launching our own Tomorrowland Music label.”
“With the combined forces of our dedicated label team, Tomorrowland’s broader Media House, and the different Virgin Music teams worldwide, our aim is to introduce fans in every corner of the world to the most exciting projects in electronic music.”
The initial release on Tomorrowland Music is set to be ‘You Got The Love‘ from Never Sleeps(feat. Afrojack & Chico Rose). For a first release, Tomorrowland honestly couldn’t have picked a better tune. ‘You Got The Love’ is a progressive house tune, that is sure to become an anthem. In case you wondering, Never Sleeps is not a new artist, but is instead, a new concept project from Afrojack. With that said, I’ve linked the music video, as well as streaming link below, enjoy!
