Museum of Modern Electronic Music Ready to Open in Spring 2022

The Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM) will officially open its doors to the public on April 6th, 2022. The project, located right in the heart of Frankfurt, offers new perspectives on electronic music. The museum and exhibition concept will allow visitors to immerse themselves fully in the history and development of electronic music, much like the one in Amsterdam. The opening ceremony will present the exhibition “Sven Väth – It’s simple to tell what saved us from hell“. It is the result of a collaboration between Sven Väth and Tobias Rehberger.

As some of you may know, Frankfurt is the birthplace of techno. “Frankfurt effectively created a trend and did something totally new in the genres of techno and house music”, says the museum’s website.

The museum’s Director, Alex Azary, partnered with Technoclub founder Andreas “Talla” Tomalla, who came up with the initial idea for the museum in 2011. In fact, Technoclub was the first-ever weekly techno event in Frankfurt, starting in 1984.  It went on to be hosted at the Dorian Gray, where Alex and Talla promoted it from 1987 to 2000. As such, Azary is one of the leading cultural activists in his hometown of Frankfurt. Obviously, both of them are a big part of electronic music’s history.

Moreover, Azary explained the choice of Sven Väth for the museum’s opening day. “There is no better opening exhibition for MOMEM”. “Sven Väth and Tobias Rehberger have each, in their own way, taken electronic music culture from Frankfurt to the world.”

Even though the concept is a museum, MOMEM will offer readings, talks, workshops, and guest performances by artists featured in the exhibition.
