Waterlog’s ‘Touchscreen’ Turns Digital Chaos into Indie Gold

After a breakout year working with legends like Peter Gabriel and Squid, producer and multi-instrumentalist Dom Shaw is stepping into the spotlight under the name Waterlog—and his new single 'Touchscreen' proves he’s more than ready.

The title track from his upcoming EP, out in March, is a high-energy indie pop-rock anthem that fuses biting social commentary with the frenetic spirit of early 2000s guitar music.

Inspired by the absurdity of modern life dominated by screens, 'Touchscreen' takes the form of a darkly comedic duet between an endlessly chirpy smartphone and its disillusioned user. Shaw describes it as “a farcical middle finger” to the technology that shaped his generation—a sentiment delivered through clashing chords, sudden tempo shifts, and his signature sharp wit.

Born from a raw jam session with drummer Cam Steele, the track builds on gnarly basslines, thrashing percussion, and flashes of sax-driven chaos. The full Waterlog lineup—Steele, Tom Coath (bass), Tatjana Radivoj (guitar), and Vi Wang (sax)—brings the song’s dynamic, shape-shifting energy to life. Shaw’s charismatic vocals weave through the mix with grit, humor, and even a nod to The Shining’s Danny Torrance in its eerily catchy hook.

With 'Touchscreen', Waterlog delivers a modern indie rock banger that’s as much a cathartic release as it is a tongue-in-cheek critique of the digital world.
