The “godfather of EDM,” Tiësto, has announced a four-day experience in Cancun featuring multiple sets by himself and several other big-name artists. Tiësto: The Trip is the latest event to hit the Mexican resort city that has recently risen as a destination for dance music fans.
Curated by Tiësto, the lineup includes his “Secrets” collaborator KSHMR and two dynamic duos, Loud Luxury and SOFI TUKKER. Tiësto promises to play several times including a sunrise set as his melodic house alias VER:WEST.
“Beyond a lineup curated by Tiësto that will feature friends, collaborators, and some of his favorite artists,” stated Tiësto’s partner in the project, Pollen Presents, “The experience will also include sunrise to sunset beach and pool parties, cultural explorations that will help guests better understand the region, and much more.”
Tiësto: The Trip is set for March 31 to April 3. That’s the weekend right after Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival. More artists are to be announced.
Tiësto’s event is the latest to plan a landing in Cancun. The famous beachy tourist town is about an hour and 45-minute drive from Tulum, which has for years been a home to the house and techno scene. Tulum gets buzzing in early January with Zamna and Day Zero Festival. Tulum now has a rival, or better yet a partner.
Cancun’s proximity to Tulum and its international airport made it a natural prospect for dance music events. In September, Pollen Presents, The Brooklyn Mirage and The Cityfox Experience announced Departure. The festival will take place in Playa del Carmen from January 6 to 11. Artists include Amelie Lens, Damien Lazarus, Nicole Moudaber and Nora En Pure.
And just around the corner is Pollen Presents’ Electric Zoo Adventures: Cancun Edition. From November 10 to 14, fans will get to listen to heavy hitters including Alesso, Cash Cash, Diplo, Kaskade, NGHTMRE and Steve Aoki at The Grand Oasis Pyramid.
