Hey Steff – thank you for taking your time for this interview! It’s great to have a first chat with you.
How have you kept inspired during 2020?
It was hard for everybody involved in our scene. I miss performing and seeing how my music gives people a great time. Also, tour life is exciting in general, travelling and meeting friends on the road. I miss that as well. However, it was great having some more time to do studio work and for my family. That kept me going! I hope 2021 will see us all back on the dancefloors all over the world!
That is different every time. In general I can get ideas for records from anywhere. Sometimes, I hear a sample that inspires me, sometimes I get a rough demo from a friend and we finish it together, sometimes it’s a melody that just pops into my head in the shower. Anyway, once the idea is there, it’s a matter of locking yourself up in the studio and turning the idea into a production. I guess, usually I work from a melody or vocal idea and build around it.
I used to work with the Hi_Tack boys many years ago and we’re mates. When they and Spinnin mentioned they were thinking about a rework, I wanted to jump on! I worked on a Steff Da Campo Remix and a more radio driven version with the 71 Digits crew.
They’re great guys! The process was remote, due to Covid, so not as personal as it normally is 9and with less Gin Tonics), but with a lot of back and forth bouncing, I think we managed to get something great done!
I don’t have a bucketlist really. I had two great years, but I know I have a long way to go, so I am grateful for any great talent that wants to work with me!
Yes, but the challenge is not really making the music, but not being able to test it out in the clubs and finding release dates once they are done. Everybody switched from airplane seats to studio seats, so there is so much music being made right now, it’s crazy!
18 December, I drop a collab with my buddy Tony Junior on Spinnin, it’s a remake of Belinda Carlisle’s “Live your life be Free” . In January, I drop a collab with Brieuc, called “Closer”. Love both records, even though they are very different!
Appreciate what you still have, stay healthy and see you on the dancefloor in 2021!
