Spain’s 5,000 Person Event Showed ‘No Sign’ of COVID Transmission

The city of Barcelona, in Spain, held a mass music event last month, researchers gathered data and found “no sign” of higher levels of Covid-19 infections. In addition, the results showed that the infection rate was lower than in the general population.

This is amazing news meaning mass music events could take place this summer. The music event had 5,000 people in attendance, and only six tested positive within 14 days of the gig. Although the number is not 0, the infection rate is even lower than the one seen in the general population. Besides, half the infection rate among people is in the same age range. After working on the results of this experiment, infectious disease specialist Josep Maria Llibre concluded that there was “no sign that suggests transmission took place during the event.”

The results also prove that 4/6 people who tested positive did not catch the virus at the event. A negative test was one of the requirements in order to attend the event. Once at the event, attendees had to wear masks but did not need to follow social distancing guidelines.

Besides, the European Union is looking forward to receiving American tourists this summer. Barcelona, in Spain, is not the only European city that tests a music event in Europe since the pandemic began. The Netherlands is also conducting experiments like the two-day event at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam last month.
