Skrillex and pop-punk singer Avril Lavigne sparked rumors of a collaboration after she featured the versatile producer on her Instagram story last week. There is no confirmation and it remains nothing but wishful thinking among some dance music fans. But based on Skrillex’s eclectic mix of past collabs, teaming up with the ‘Sk8er Boi’ singer is entirely possible.
On her Instagram story, Lavigne shared a video that zooms in and out on Skrillex, wearing a black mask over his nose, set to Future’s ‘Mask Off’ song. Skrillex, lesser known as Sonny John Moore, looks at and away from the camera. It appears the artists were just hanging out, and the setting did not seem to be in a studio.
While it’s hard to imagine what a collab between them would sound like, such a project could be very promising. The possibilities are endless with of a multi-skilled producer like Skrillex and Lavigne’s powerful vocals.
Skrillex surprised dance music fans when he and Diplo, as the duo Jack Ü, collaborated with Justin Bieber on ‘Where Are Ü Now.’ Already this fall, Skrillex has been seen with Bieber, Mike Einziger of the rock band Incubus, and singer Zacari.
Counting all of 2020, Moore has been spotted in the studio with Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys, rap rock band Limp Bizkit, heavy metal band Slipknot, rapper Tech N9ne, DJ Scheme, and producers Ross Robinson and Scott Storch. Skrillex has also worked with From First to Last, the post-hardcore band he is a member of.
This year has been a busy one for Skrillex, who put out a solo release, ‘Kliptown Empyrean,’ last month. The track is a creative blend of ambient, future garage, and UK garage elements. If Skrillex and the ‘Complicated’ singer indeed join forces on a tune, it is sure to catch the attention of music fans across multiple genres.
