A nightclub in Tokyo called Aoyama Hachi was raided by authorities on Sunday morning. Three people were arrested for violating the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses due to allowing customers to dance until morning.
Tokyo Metropolitan Police found violations related to the law that has been referred to as the country’s “no dancing law”. The main issue was that club organizers arranged floor space to dance, setup a DJ booth and were selling or serving alcohol to patrons.
According to Tokyo Reporter, this was the first bust after the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses was amended and relaxed in 2016: The new relaxed law allows “dance clubs to operate until 5AM, but venues can’t serve alcohol, floor space must be at least 33 square meters and the lighting must be at least 10 lumens per square meter, which is “roughly the brightness an illuminated city street”.
