Though Paper Diamond’s influence has diminished slightly in the past couple years as wave upon wave new, young producers have saturated the market with cookie cutter bass music, his cult following is as strong as ever and has been awaiting the day he would release new music. Well, that day is today, and we believe he’s got a lot more coming.
“Work 9000” feels like an exercise in experimental beat making, bordering on trip hop and bass music while still containing a core beat vibe. Even if this track was just those 909s and 808s, I’d still blast this just for the creativity in arrangement. Thankfully, there is a lot more to it, and we get to enjoy it ad nauseum.
As for what the future holds, when an artist comes out a two-year hiatus with music like this, you have to be thinking that he’s got more up his sleeve. For now, check out “Work 9000” below.
Paper Diamond on his return to releasing music:
“Making the new music has been been a very immersive process. After playing shows on the road for a few years, I thought it would be important to get back to the root where it began. Focusing on the music itself. Making it a daily practice to create something new. I believe that frequency can help breed creativity and doing something every single day will give you more opportunities to make something amazing. It also takes away the pressure ALWAYS creating something amazing on the spot, so you can focus more on being yourself.
The new music is a good representation me drowning out the outside world and making what comes naturally. I didn’t limit myself to one style, genre, bpm, or idea and focused more on musical spontaneity. Naturally, by the time things are finished they have a cohesive Paper Diamond feeling to them, but they always start from unknown inspiration.”
