Berlin-based Persian-American artist Kean Farrar fuses alt-R&B with progressive electronic sounds.
Across five tracks, the rising artist infuses the hedonistic club culture of the German capital with lyrics about strained relationships and urban melancholy.
Sonically, Troye Sivan-esque vocals meet club-ready production from Farrar's collaborator, RIP Swirl. Carrying us through the emotions and experiences of a night out, the record kicks off intensely with the urgent 'Horoscope', as Farrar sings of an enthralling meet-cute on the dance floor. EP title track 'Reload' pulls us back into a more minimal electronic space as we catch our breath in the club, whilst next number, 'I Think I Like U', brings us back up to lose ourselves under the lights. A disorientating middle eight mirrors the glitchy feelings of intoxication. The sultry 'Haunted' feels like slipping out of the club hand in hand with your dance floor lover as Farrar sings: "Are you faded enough to imagine my touch / Do you think about us... Cos I am". Finally, slowed, pensive EP closer 'Hated Me' bottles gloomy end of the night emotions; the coming down from the high.
Having released music since 2018, it seems that with with sophomore EP 'Reload', Kean Farrar is primed to really make his mark.
