Hi guys welcome to Only Techno and wishing you a very happy New Year! Where are we speaking to you from today?

Right now we are flying in an airplane from India to UAE and with wifi on board we are able to answer questions and work through the internet.

Looking back, what were some summer 2024 highlights?

Last summer was memorable for the big Techmission Festival in Prague, where we played together with Paul Kalkbrenner, Anfisa Letyago and Philipp Straub. It was very epic. A recording of the full set can be found on YouTube. We also went to Tokyo for the first time in our lives and Japan impressed us a lot – it was like you landed on another planet. We also performed for the first time in one of the most beautiful locations in the world – Cappadocia in Turkey. It was unforgettable and very atmospheric. There was also a brilliant show at Ushuaia in Ibiza. We are always happy to come back to Ibiza and to this club – one of the best in the world.

You recently released your Everybody Do Clap EP on Truesoul Records. Can you tell us a bit about this release?

We have long loved the sound of both Adam Beyer’s labels – Drumcode and Truesoul. But Drumcode has a more aggressive style than Truesoul. That’s why we are doing our second release on Truesoul. It’s “soft techno” as we call it, more melodic and more clubby. The first release was the successful “Set & Setting”, which was supported by many DJs around the world. And now the second release on this label comes out on December 13th. It’s an EP with two tracks – “Everybody Do Clap” and “Nicotine”.

Did you create “Everybody Do Clap” and “Nicotine” to be released as a pair? How have audiences reacted to them in your recent performances?

“Everybody Do Clap” is a pretty hard track with a male voice and the phrase ‘Everybody Do Clap’ repeated many times. In the break, usually the whole dance floor really starts clapping their hands. This lyric works! We’ve been playing “Everybody Do Clap” for about a year now in our sets and have already sent it out to some DJs. Besides Adam Beyer himself it has been supported by Adriatique in Tulum, Innellea for example. “Nicotine” is a softer track with drop and stab like a classic techno track. It got good feedback from his colleagues too.

You recently announced that you will be heading on tour to South America. Can you share any further details?

Latin America is one of our favorite destinations. And despite the very long journey to get there – it’s worth it. We have a big fanbase in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil and we are happy to go back and perform there every time. We usually get three or four cities in a weekend. You always come back from the tour tired but satisfied. The clubbers there are very responsive and they give you a lot of positive emotions. We just finished a 4-city tour to Mexico and in February we are planning Argentina and Brazil.

Looking back at past events or tours, is there a particular show that stands out in your memory?

The most memorable shows are the ones you prepare for the most. Usually it’s cool festivals like Tomorrowland or shows in legendary clubs around the world like Ministry Of Sound in London, Ushuaia and Hi in Ibiza, or Green Valley in Brazil. You feel more excited and more responsible before playing in those places and maybe that’s why you remember them the most.

What song do you feel most defines your artistic project as Goom Gum?

Our biggest success so far is the track “Pantheon”. We think we were one of the first to sample Balkan chorals in melodic techno. I mean, maybe someone has done it before, but we haven’t heard such bright melodies yet. We managed to make a full-fledged solemn chorus out of samples, which you want to sing along to. Even though it’s a cut of syllables that add up to words in a non-existent language. Thanks to “Pantheon”, a whole trend of chorals was born in the dance scene. We’ve heard so many tracks from different artists with such chorals in the last 2 years.

What was the thing that inspired you to get into the studio to work on something new?

Fresh, bright ideas and a good mood are usually inspiring. Sometimes you have an interesting idea, but you don’t know how to realize it properly. You can work on some tracks for several weeks. But as our experience has shown – the most successful tracks are those that are created quickly – in 2-3 days. It means that you have a clear understanding of how it should sound in the final and you don’t waste time on experimentation. The easiest thing is to do covers and remixes. Usually you already have a ready-made vocal and you can see at once what kind of “wrapping” it would be interesting to package it in.

Are there any labels you haven’t released on yet that you would love to work with?

We’ve been released on a lot of small labels, medium labels and even major labels. But with time you realize that it’s important to develop your own label. Own label means freedom of creativity and full control over promo, statistics and reporting. Our label is called Avtook and it’s been around for a few years now. Now we realize that we paid too little attention to it and at the moment we want to focus on its development. We tried to release tracks from other artists on it, but we realize that working with other artists is very time consuming. So for now Avtook will only release our original tracks.

Anything else you would like to share with our readers?

We would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year 2025 and wish everyone a good and peaceful year ahead! Listen to more interesting new music and never stop on your achievements.
