Insomniac Expands into San Diego with Omnia Purchase

We’ve detailed for you how EDC’s Insomniac has grown to dominate the North American dance music scene since the pandemic. That trend is continuing even on its own West Coast turf. In fact, the company purchased the defunct Omnia Nightclub in San Diego. Many rumors circulated in the past few months, but now some of them seem to be true.

Despite having its headquarters only a few hours drive from San Diego, Insomniac rarely set shop in the city. Back in 2020, Insomniac started the Chula Vista Drive-In Concert Series at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater. Then, the group came back to the area with its Audiotistic Music Festival in November of 2021. The inaugural edition featured Gryffin, SLANDER, Svdden Death, and Tchami, among others. Interestingly, the second edition of Audiotistic in San Diego has already been confirmed for 2022.

The news broke when a liquor license was submitted by the CEO and founder of Insomniac, Pasquale Rotella. As you can see in the link above, the primary owner is “WHY NOT SAN DIEGO LLC”. Previously owned by the Hakkasan group, the Omnia Nightclub in San Diego is the sister of the famous Las Vegas one. In 2020, the club had big plans for its 5th anniversary. However, the pandemic forced the venue to shut down, and even though the majority of clubs opened back in the country, this one didn’t.

For the moment, it looks like the club’s name will be NOVA SD. Many more details will come in the future, but we can say for sure that the EDM community in the San Diego area will benefit from this move by Insomniac.
