It’s about that time again (…but really, where has this year gone?)! Summer is in full swing, and that means Dirtybird Campout is only a few months out. What better way to wrap festival season than with a weekend of – well, let’s put it this way – the silliest summer camp for the weirdo adults out there?
The annual boutique festival returns to Modesto Reservoir Campgrounds in Central California on October 7-9 with three days of eclectic musical delights, ridiculously fun camp games like Tug O War, dodgeball, and the .5km Floaty Race, wildly entertaining oddities at Claude’s Cabin like Lapdance For Your Life, Bingo, Deep House Yoga and How To Grow Shrooms, and – well – so much more.
As the anticipation builds for the weekend’s triumphant return, we’re gearing up with some funky tunes with a mix from one of our favorite up-and-coming acts on this year’s lineup: Boiz House.
This live-electronic band consists of quite the gaggle of talented artists: six producers/DJs – TCHiLT, MNTRA, AiDO, dernis, Malley and Sammy Legs – who first met in college while attending UC Berkeley, and later studied music production post-grad at ICON Collective in Burbank, CA. They each have their own solo projects and have released on labels like Dirtybird, Desert Hearts Black, Inquiry Records, Trippy Ass Technologies, and Box of Cats – and now, they’ve set their sights on creating music together with releases forthcoming on their own label imprint.
Boiz House is an eclectic sound to say the least – a combination of jam band funk, club-energy grooves, live instruments and heartwarming vocals that take you for a wild ride through house & techno beats, the playful storytelling of hip-hop, the other-worldly unpredictability of psychedelia, the charming melodies of nostalgia, and the raw, brute strength of subharmonic frequencies. They cross genres and break barriers in an indescribable way – one that brings a power to the dancefloor unlike any other. They’ve got a little something for everyone, and a lot more to discover.
Take it from me – I’ve seen them live numerous times, and watched them explode onto the scene over the last few years – it’s an experience you absolutely will not want to miss at this year’s campout. They’re an unstoppable force of tunes with an incredible community behind them, and I’ve left their sets with a massive grin on my face every single time.
In the meantime, press play on their Dirtybird Campout mix, grab a ticket for the weekend here, and enjoy!
