[Event Review] Lost Frequencies Sells Out Brooklyn Mirage on Debut Performance

On July 3rd, everyone in the New York Tristate area came out in full force to party the day before the Fourth of July at the Brooklyn Mirage. Lost Frequencies came into town to play a sold out headlining show alongside support from Gold Fish, Pretty Pink, and Illusionize.. This was a totally stacked lineup for the diverse and groovy music that all the artists play.

The pink hair superstar DJ Pretty Pink started off the night at 9pm and had the crowd going from the start. After setting the mood with some of her bumping house/techno tracks, Gold Fish took the decks at 11pm. This was the first time I’ve seen the duo and it it might have been one of the grooviest instrument dj set’s I’ve ever experienced. `Their combination of live jazz, piano and saxophone was buzzing throughout the night, bringing up everyone’s mood and into an elated state. They even brought a flute and some African tones and were slaying it with their whiffs and toots.

After a quick changeover, the Belgium superstar Lost Frequencies took center stage at 12:30am. To add onto his debut experience, it started pouring hard which made his set only that much more successful. It was a hot and humid night at Mirage so it definitely cooled down the crowd. His music has a very unique way at capturing your heart, with his beautiful melodies and upbeat house music. His use of heartfelt vocals and changes up in the energy inducing synth works makes sure you’re never bored throughout the set. It’s no head bumping dubstep show but it will have you dancing and jumping all the same throughout the show. In terms of song selection, he really delivered – giving us all the classic goodies such as ‘Where Are You Now’ and ‘Back To You’, and ‘Questions’. ‘It was amazing to listen to his latest track ‘The Feeling’. One of his last closing tracks was ‘Sun in Shining’ and it felt like we were taken to the church of Lost Frequencies as the crowd sang along to ‘Sun is shining, shining down Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!” His audovisuals amplified the whole experience with Mirage’s ultra wide LED screens taking it to another level.
