PUNCHBAG return with ‘I Am Obsessed’, an unfiltered new single that doubles as the title track of their forthcoming second EP, due out 10 April via Mute. It’s a release that finds the South London sibling duo pushing further into the extremes that have quickly become their calling card - louder feelings, sharper contrasts, and pop music that thrives on overload.
Opening with skewed piano stabs, ‘I Am Obsessed’ lures you in before unravelling into something far more abrasive. Clara Bach’s lyrics frame obsession as invasive and bodily, less romantic fixation and more full-system malfunction. It’s claustrophobic, messy and deliberately uncomfortable, matched by production that jitters between control and collapse.
Debut EP 'I’m Not Your Punchbag' introduced PUNCHBAG as maximalist provocateurs, while the band suggest that their upcoming EP will be a zooming in rather than out - seeing them interrogating the everyday with forensic intensity. They promise immediacy and hook-laden chaos, but deployed with a growing sense of purpose.
