Hackney’s grassroots venue MOTH Club - a cornerstone of London’s independent music scene - is facing a new threat to its future. A second planning application has been submitted to build residential flats directly beside the venue, with balconies overlooking its stage wall and smoking area - a move that could jeopardise its long-term ability to operate.
If approved, the development would likely result in noise complaints and potential licensing restrictions, placing immense pressure on one of the capital’s most vital small venues. For nearly a decade, MOTH Club has been a home for emerging artists, unforgettable live performances, and the creative community that fuels East London’s cultural heartbeat.
In response, the team behind the venue has launched a petition opposing the plans, which has already gathered more than 22,000 signatures. The campaign has drawn tons of support from across the music industry, with artists, promoters, and festivals rallying to defend the space.
Sign and share the petition to help protect the venue. Those working in the industry can also add their names to the growing list of public supporters here by signing this form.
