Boom Merchant drops “Azteca”

Boom Merchant is fresh from his recent release on La La’s Brand New Records, and continues to establish himself as one of techno’s most exciting talents. Not only has Boom Merchant been releasing regularly on his own record label Tribal Pulse, but his music can also be found on other prestigious imprints such as T78’s Autektone Dark.

Originally from Ireland, Boom Merchant spent many years living in Glasgow (Scotland), before recently relocating to Mexico. He has an international fanbase leading to him playing shows everywhere from Germany to Japan, and his style combines gritty percussion with ominous synths to create tracks with explosive energy.

“Azteca” is the EP’s title track, and it has a menacing bassline underpinning a hammering kick drum, as well as industrial percussion sequenced into fast-paced rhythms. It swells with swirling modulation as it unfolds with a ferocious energy.

“Rain God/War God” opens with atmospheric synths, before crunching percussion and rushing pads form the foundation of a heavy groove underscored by a booming kick drum. Aggressive vocal chants add to the unrelenting suspense of this smouldering slice of techno, which is signified by a deep breakdown, before the pummelling percussion hits back in.
