It’s a sad day for the Brazillian music scene, as one of the nation’s finest beach clubs has just gone up in flames. According to video footage, the iconic Warung Beach Club in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brazil has been engulfed in flames. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported, and firefighters from Itajaí, Itapema, and Balnéario were quick to respond to the blaze. They were able to bring it under control after about two hours, despite this, the damage is extensive. This is indeed a sad day for Brazil’s dance music scene.
Warung Beach Club celebrated its 20th anniversary towards the end of last year, having been open since 2002. It’s a much-loved venue in the area and has hosted some of the biggest names in electronic music, including Charlotte de Witte, Four Tet, Seth Troxler, Joris Voorn, and Dubfire.
The club was also set to host an impressive lineup for its Warung Day Festival event on May 6, featuring Adriatique, ANNA, Bonobo, Chloé Caillet, and Camelphat. As of now, it’s unclear what will happen regarding future scheduled events. At this stage, the cause of the fire is unknown. In the meantime, our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating event. Let’s hope that this resilient institution can bounce back from this setback stronger than ever before.
