Italy Extends Covid Measures on Nightclubs

Italy‘s government decided to extend several Covid restrictions that were due to expire on Monday. According to Italian media reports, the ministers reached an agreement on Monday afternoon. Therefore, the government will maintain in place a few of the restrictions until next week. Italy’s leaders think that these additional days could make a huge difference in the fight against the omicron variant.

Even though other European countries already lifted all restrictions, Italy is not ready yet. Nightclubs and dance bars will remain closed until February 10, reports news agency Ansa. Those establishments had to close their doors in mid-December. Sadly, they will have to wait for another week before opening again, if everything goes according to plan.

Moreover, the requirement to wear masks outdoors will continue across the nation. This decision will also apply to Italy’s low-risk areas named “white zones.” The country definitely has lower infection rates than a few weeks ago, but they are not out of the woods yet. In fact, Italian news outlets predicted the extension of the restrictions for a while now.

On Thursday, Italy should allow travelers from EU countries with only a “green pass” health certificate to enter the country. The green pass can be obtained via vaccination, recovery, or a recent negative Covid test. It allows the traveler to enter the country without a self-isolation requirement. Other changes of restrictions may happen in the future for this matter. Apparently, the use of the COVID ‘super green pass’, required upon entry of most services, is still in discussion.

People should expect the Italian government to discuss further changes throughout the week before publishing more changes on Thursday.
