Legendary trio Swedish House Mafia returns with a very special track. The name of the track is ‘Moth To A Flame‘, this time with the current R&B sensation The Weeknd. It is available now through Republic Records, and we first heard it during the trio’s historic performance at the MTV VMA pre-show.
It marks the band’s first music offering since announcing their reunion last July, with a couple of new singles: ‘It Gets Better‘ and ‘Lifetime (feat. Ty Dolla $ign & 070 Shake)”. Which came along with cover art for Billboard magazine and the presentation of both songs on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. This string of releases have generated anticipation for the group’s next album, Paradise Again, scheduled for release early next year.
The collaboration between the trio and The Weeknd had been speculated for a long time, but the end result seemed to be a bit out of the question. Abel’s voice greatly complements the very strong and powerful synths of Axwell, Ingrosso, and Steve Angello. At the same time, we still get some of the electronic-pop style of SHM. The typical instruments of the Canadian singer’s songs are present in an implicit way throughout the song, something that his fans will surely love.
We can also find a fusion of styles in the aesthetics of the music video and the cover photo. You can feel the dark and mysterious vibes all over the work. Something that stood out is the foreground of The Weeknd, under a blue/dark green light, with the three stars reflected on the sunglasses. This clearly represents Swedish House Mafia. In summary, this is an excellent collaboration that we can’t wait to listen to during a live show.
