Another domino has fallen in the festival game as Awakenings Festival postpones this year’s event to the fall. This year’s show will take place on September 11 & 12, 2021.
Event organizers released an official statement on the postponement of the festival. According to organizers, the initial dates for the event – June 26 & 27 – are too soon. Although things with the current pandemic are looking up, it still has not come to an end.
“Just like you, we can’t wait to party together again. We have boldly taken the first step and are preparing for our first post-pandemic event for you, the DJs, the scene, and everybody else involved.”
Organizers are currently working on the location for the event. Two locations in The Netherlands are kept in mind. However, the Dutch government is still working on license applications, although no event in the country has been granted one.
Tickets for this year’s event will not go on sale as of yet due to the uncertainty of the pandemic. Current ticket holders will be given the opportunity to refund their passes for the 20th edition of Awakenings Festival.
This announcement comes just after world-renowned music festivals Glastonbury and Ultra Music Festival were canceled due to the pandemic. Although there were high hopes for the return of these events in the new year, the future of COVID-19 still remains uncertain.
With vaccinations underway, health experts expect the pandemic to subside before the fall season. However, many countries are facing new mutations of the virus, including the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil.
Researchers and health experts are currently looking into the vaccine’s effectiveness against these strains. A recent lab study found the Pfizer vaccine to be effective against certain mutations. However, the results from this study have yet to be reviewed.
